Native to Madagascar, tenrecs come in a variety of sizes and colours. Truffle and Thornton are lesser hedgehog tenrecs. They’re not related to hedgehogs though!

Truffle was born on the 21st of May 2015, and Thornton was born on the 6th June 2016. They’re actually more closely related to an elephant than they are a hedgehog, it’s pure coincidence that they share the same defensive techniques.

Like a hedgehog, they can curl up into a ball, and they can give you a good nip if you’re not careful. They are insectivores, and enjoy meal worms and similar creepy crawlys. They are wonderful little creatures, they’re odourless and pretty hardy.

Unfortunately Truffle hasn’t been too well lately, but she’s well on the way to recovery now, and Thornton’s getting so fat, she can just about squeeze into their hideout.

Let me know in the comments if you’d like to learn more about Truffle and Thornton.
